The development of technology in the lignocellulosic space has opened a whole range of optionality in process development. The implementation of effective “screening and scouting” strategies that focus on the “large scale” industrial screening filters that need to be applied in the early stages will be critical to ensuring the process can scale with reasonable capex and opex. The development and implementation of these screens with an eye to the ultimate commercialization has been applied across the BP Biofuels LCE technology portfolio and examples will be discussed including the development of cellulase cocktails and ethanolgens.
