The Agricultural Research Service (ARS) is USDA’s principal intramural scientific research agency. ARS employs approximately 2000 scientists to conduct 750 research projects at over 90 locations. Successful adoption of ARS research outcomes typically requires complementary assets and services provided by the private sector. Thus, science-based innovations from USDA research --- often developed through public / private partnerships --- create new or improved technologies, processes, products and services that benefit the nation by increasing productivity, increasing efficiency (keeping costs low) and enhancing global competitiveness for the U.S. agriculture sector.
