S20: Do we need fermentation experts or just operators?

Starting with a provocative question, this short talk will focus on the changes in demand of fermentation know- how at global and regional levels, and the current and provision of future education based on technological push. The talk will give a perspective on scale, from microfluidics and micro-scale to meter cube level applications; type of reactor design, continuous / batch  to stainless steel / single use. The talk will aim to draw conclusions which can be debated in more depth.
