Session 12: Novel Tools for Natural Product Discovery
Tuesday, July 22, 2014: 8:30 AM-11:30 AM
Regency Ballroom A, Second Floor (St. Louis Hyatt Regency at the Arch)
Convener:
Huimin Zhao - University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Urbana, IL
Natural products have been and continue to be the source and inspiration for small molecule drugs. Recent advances in genomics, bioinformatics, and synthetic biology have rekindled interest in natural product discovery. This session will showcase the top-down and bottom-up approaches for discovering natural products including but not limited to diverse sampling and innovative culturing and screening approaches, as well as genomics-driven discovery and genetic manipulation techniques for both native and heterologous expression.
