Call for Abstracts

48th Symposium on Biomaterials, Fuels and Chemicals

Abstracts for invited talks, posters, contributed oral presentations and student oral session presentations are now being accepted.

General Instructions

NOTE: When entering your abstract title, use initial capital letters only for the first word in the title and any genus or proper name appearing in the title. Use lower case for all other words in the title, i.e., Improving phenylalanine production of Escherichia coli.

Maximum Abstract Length is 350 Words

INVITED TALKS:  Submit to this area if you have been specifically invited to present in one of the oral sessions.

CONTRIBUTED TALKS:  Submit to this area if you would like to speak in one of the oral presentation sessions but have not been specifically invited. Your abstract will be reviewed, and you will be notified of the outcome in time to preregister. If you are not selected to speak in an oral session, your submission will automatically be accepted to present as a poster.

POSTER PRESENTATIONS:  Poster spaces are limited. Please do not submit an abstract unless you are committed to attending the meeting and presenting. To be assured of a poster space after receiving an acceptance, each poster must have the presenting author registered and paid by the advanced registration deadline date which will be posted on the conference website. Substitutions for the presenting author must be identified by contacting SIMB directly. In the case of a substitution, the new presenter must also be registered and paid by required date.

RAPID FIRE POSTER SESSIONS: SBFC’s Rapid Fire poster sessions are 1-minute 1-slide oral presentations of accepted poster presentations. These are intended to highlight the work of students primarily, with a new option in 2025 to include post docs and early career professionals if there are available slots. The question for if someone is interested in being considered for Rapid Fire has been added to the contributed abstract process as a way to identify students who may not be submitting a student abstract, or to identify post docs and early career professionals who may also be interested. If there are additional slots after these groups have been spotlighted, the window may open up to other abstracts not submitted by students, post-docs, or early career professionals. Selecting the option for Rapid Fire consideration during the submission phase does not guarantee participation in the Rapid Fire session, even if your abstract is accepted as a poster presentation.

All posters accepted and displayed must have at least one author available to discuss the poster. This author may present only two posters within a single poster session, and present no more than a total of three posters in both poster sessions, i.e., a single author may present a maximum of two (2) posters in one poster session and one (1) poster in the other poster session.

IMPORTANT: You will be notified by email of acceptance of your poster abstract. All accepted poster presenters MUST be registered and paid in full before abstracts will be published. If you have not registered and paid by March 31st, your poster will be withdrawn from the program/website and space will not be reserved for you in the poster hall.

** Please do not bring a poster to the meeting if you have NOT been accepted or if you have NOT registered and paid by March 31st, you will NOT be able to present. You will NOT be able to register onsite and receive a poster number. **
