Biofilm growth, monitoring, and control in industrial water systems

Biofilm formation is a common problem in many industrial and commercial cooling water systems. Biofilm can reduce heat exchanger efficiency, offer a constant source of reinoculation, and provide a sheltered environment for organisms that may harm human health. As water reuse becomes more common and operation efficiency more critical, biofilm control will become increasingly more important. This presentation will outline the best practices associated with biofilm control including monitoring biofilm growth in the field, how to prevent biofilm formation, and what biocides to use if biofilm formation does occur.
