Iogen’s process for the conversion of cellulose to ethanol comprises pretreatment with dilute sulfuric acid, hydrolysis of the cellulose with cellulase enzymes, and fermentation of the sugar to ethanol with yeast. Raizen has built and commissioned a commercial plant that converts sugar cane bagasse to ethanol in Piracicaba, Brazil that uses Iogen’s process. This presentation will describe the scale-up from the demonstration plant to the commercial plant, the operation of the commercial plant to date, and the plans moving forward.
