Basic Characterization of Endoglucanases from Different GH Families
Hanshu Ding, Romil Benyamino
Cellulose is the most abundant renewable biopolymer on earth and its biodegradation is of great importance to the global carbon cycle. The degradation of lignocellulosic materials usually requires a complete cellulase system including endoglucanases, cellobiohydrolases and β-glucosidases. In this study, endoglucanases from different GH families were systematically characterized by their substrate specificity, specific activity on carboxylmethyl cellulose (CMC), thermostability, and pH profile. Their synergistic effects with cellobiohydrolases and β-glucosidases during biomass conversion were also studied.
