Biochemical characterization of β-glucosidases from different families
Hanshu Ding, Scott Myers, and Romil Benyamino. Protein Chemistry, Novozymes, 1445 Drew Ave., Davis, CA 95616
β-glucosidases (BG) catalyze the hydrolysis of cellobiose to glucose, release the significant inhibition of cellobiose to cellulases, and thus are very important in the process of fuel ethanol production from cellulosic biomass. More than ten β-glucosidases from family 1, 3 and 5 are characterized by their substrate specificity, specific activity, thermostability, pH profile, temperature profile, and kinetic parameters, such as inhibition by glucose. The aim is to identify some active, thermostable, and high-glucose-tolerant BGs.
