An integrated approach for the choice of economically viable biobased molecules in the commodity space is utmost important. Focus will be given to principals BASF is using for appropriate raw material selection, selection of the right strains, identification of novel and competitive metabolic pathways for maximal yield and productivity, developing of robust strains and the choice of most efficient product separation process. By adhering to these principals BASF was able to increase success rate of economically viable biobased products like e.g. succinic acid.
