Development of a Diversity Committee for SIMB

A Presidential Committee on Diversity was appointed by SIMB President Leonard Katz at the 2013 SIMB Annual Meeting to work on establishing a standing Diversity Committee for the Society dealing with both gender and underrepresented minorities.  The Chairs of this Presidential Committee are Susan Bagley (Professor Emerita, Michigan Technological University) and Raul Cano (Professor Emeritus, California Polytechnic State University).  During the past year, a working group of SIMB members was formed for developing and evaluating documents associated with this effort.  The Presidential Committee’s recommendations will be presented and discussed at the Board of Directors’ Meeting at the 2014 SIMB Annual Meeting.  The outcome of these discussions will be presented during this session, followed by future plans for the establishment and operation of this new Committee.
