There is an urgent need for sustainable alternatives to petroleum-based chemicals and materials.  By harnessing the efficiency of fatty acid biosynthesis and exploiting the rich biocatalytic diversity of nature, LS9 has integrated all chemical unit operations within whole cell catalysts to enable efficient biosynthetic routes to a variety of renewable fuels and specialty chemicals, such as esters, alcohols, alkenes, and alkanes.  This presentation will focus on the design, construction, and improvement of our microbial biocatalysts, as well as progress in the development and scale up of our processes.
