Several recent developments in fatty acid synthesis will be presented.  These will include:

1)   Further diversity in the enoyl-ACP reductase step of the fatty acid synthetic cycle.

2)   Diversity in anaerobic pathways of unsaturated fatty acid synthesis.

3)   Synthesis of dicarboxylic acids by the canonical fatty acid synthetic pathway.

4)   Transfer of an amide-linked fatty acid from one protein to another via a thioesters intermediate.
