Emerging Trends towards the production of Biofuels in North America

Sarad Parekh, R&D, Qteros, Inc., 100 Campus Drive, 6th fl., Marlborough, MA 01752

Commercial process development for the production of biofuels for transportation fuel especially  from  lignocellulosics  biomass and the large scale operation  and the validation from the laboratory to the market, is a very complex operation. The essential and determining feature of an industrial biofuel production  various complex from biomass  requires  better understanding of  feed stock supply chain,  is the art of culturing of the cells and optimizing the yield as well as successfully scaling up the process to manufacturing.

This presentation will initially review some of the existing and emerging technologies  in North America derived from various  biomass feedstock and  areas of biotechnology  that are being improved and commercialized. Thereafter the talk will focus on the areas critical from commercial manufacturing perspectives employing novel pretreatment systems and  microbes and fermentation process system and the overall economic impact. Examples will be sited of “how to” integrate current and evolving technologies in US, for improving and optimizing the  biocatalyst capabilities of  industrial strains and address scale up needs. Specific emphasis will be given to solving critical issues encountered during early stage development and review opportunities to ramp up the process development efforts. In addition how the overall  production process parameters are optimized and validated, for maximizing product yield the process scalability and quality control methods for camp compliance requirements and its overall economic impacts will be discussed.
