Session 38: Symbiotic microbes and applications in bioenergy and chemical production
Lignocellulosic biomass has been extensively explored as alternative sources for biofuel and chemical production. Cost-effective conversion of lignocellulosic biomass into fermentative sugars is crucial for the improvement of biofuel and chemical production. Symbiotic microbes among the vast microbes have been examined for their potential applications in biomass production and conversion. Symbiotic microbes act as metabolic partners within their hosts and also as protectors for producing toxins that ward off herbivores or pathogens. This section will focus on the roles of the symbiotic microbes in lignocellulosic biomass production and conversion and their metabolic pathways for building-block chemical production.
