Shaken bioreactors have been used for more than five decades cultivating microorganisms.

Since a comparably short time (disposable) shaken bioreactors are as well numerously applied in the field of cell cultivation.

This presentation will give an overview of different types and sizes of shaken bioreactors (ml-m^3). Even though shaken bioreactors are simple and easy to handle, some basic parameters such as flask geometry, aeration, stopper and mechanical stress have to be considered to get optimal results. The talk will summarize these parameters and what effect they might have on the cultivation.
