This study evaluates the efficacy of a novel vacuum moist-heat sterilization process, produced by SteamLab Systems
(Hamburg, Germany) which can be used for the sterilization of many different food type products and complies with both
FDA and ISO standards. Ethylene oxide, moist heat, ozonation, dry heat and gamma radiation have been the processes of choice for decontaminating raw materials in many industries, including food and cosmetics. However, many such processes are not suitable for dry, heat-sensitive products. Often desirable characteristics are lost leaving the product saturated or ash dry, with chemical residuals, or the process is not conducive to maintaining organic stature. In an attempt to seek out new available technologies, which effectively decrease bioburden while maintaining product integrity and organic certifications, this vacuum moist-heat process meets all of these objectives.
