Biofuel supply chain integration is a formidable task. Catchlight Energy is facilitating commercialization by partnering with others to complete the supply chain.

Catchlight Energy is a joint venture of Chevron and Weyerhaeuser focused on commercializing the production of liquid transportation fuels from sustainable, forest-based resources.  Our efforts include supplying third parties with sustainable cellulosic feedstock, receiving off-take of the fuel produced, technology licensing and consultation. We leverage the expertise and infrastructure of both Parents to accomplish this, and are open to working with third parties using various technologies to produce renewable, cellulosic fuel.

One of the hurdles to commercialization is capital. Strategies to mitigate this include co-location and the use of existing assets. As an example, corn ethanol plants can produce cellulosic ethanol by introducing cellulosic sugar to the process. Alternatives for delivering cellulosic sugar to an ethanol plant are compared.
